“Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.” – Psalm 141:3
While preparing breakfast this morning, I got upset with my wife over leftovers and fruits that are halfway rotten inside the fridge. I continued venting out over the things that should have been done and I almost ruined our day with my uncontrolled mouth and harsh words. I criticized my wife for not doing things the way I wanted, but then later on with a gap of silence, I realized I could have done it myself to help her out. I have forgotten the many good things she did for the whole week and how she managed it without a single complaint.
Probably some of you could relate with me, it is easier to blow up when we are angry and let words fly out without control rather than pause and think before we speak. But how can we do that when we are irritated? The psalmist reminds us to seek God’s help to say
the right words with the right tone. Controlling our attitude is a lifelong work but thankfully God is working in us, giving us the desire to do what pleases Him.
Heavenly Father, guard my heart and the words that come out from the door of my lips. Provide me with words that will glorify Your name. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
