Touch The Water’s Edge

“Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing.”- Joshua 3:15

It is common for us to know our tracks first before going to different places. Personally speaking, I hate vague things; I feel uncomfortable, irritated, and anxious, and who would like it, by the way? When things are becoming a shade of grey, for instance, in our work, plans, or relationships, we tend to panic, be hesitant and are itchy to see what is at the end of the tunnel.

Often, I would ask God to let me experience crossing my Red Sea on the dry ground like how the Israelites did during Exodus. However, that’s not always the case. Instead, He wants us to walk toward the Jordan River and touch our feet on the edge of the water first, like what had happened during Joshua’s time. And this is looking pretty uneasy. We may ask ourselves, how if the water won’t stop flowing, if the river won’t dry up even if I reached the middle of the river, etc.? Those thoughts will add up to our doubts and fear and become hindrances to experiencing God’s miracles in our lives. Thus, we need to extinguish them with the Truth. The only thing we need to do is pluck up the courage and a leap of faith to cross over the river. And we know God operates in our faith.

For many of us, we want to play safe; we want to see first the whole course of the journey, then we will say, this is it! In contrast, 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we live by faith, not by sight.”

Prayer: Father God, thank you for this wonderful revelation; apart from You, I am nothing. I admit that I can’t do anything without Your divine intervention on what I ask and pray for. Though everything seems uncertain now, I ask You, Oh God, to enable me and give me the courage to have a leap of faith to believe and move forward toward the Jordan River of my life. Amen!
