The Meaning of Love

“Ang pag-big ay matiyaga at magandang-loob, hindi maiinggitin, hindi mayabang ni mapagmataas man. Hindi magaspang ang pag-uugali, hindi makasarili, hindi magagalitin, o mapagtanim sa kapwa. Hindi niya ikinatutuwa ang gawaing masama, ngunit ikinagagalak ang katotohanan. Ang pag-ibig ay mapagpatawad, mapagtiwala, puno ng pag-asa at mapagtiis hanggang wakas.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

When I was a child (1 to 6 years old), the meaning of love to me was anything that was attractive to my sight, taste, hearing, smell, and touch. When I was in elementary school, another definition of love to me was like “Eddie loves Hazel”. The definition of love for me when I was in high school was taken from an acronym M.A.R.L.B.O.R.O (Man Always Remember Love…) But, after knowing about Jesus’ love and accepting Him as my personal Savior and Lord through Bible study, Church services, prayer meeting, and fellowship, I then became a Born Again Christian. The meaning of love I discovered was profound, and it was the best meaning of love I had ever encountered and this can be found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. This meaning of love gives me understanding – why I was born, and what God’s plan is for my life. This is my story of becoming a Born Again Christian. As a father of my 3 children, my prayer is that by the grace of God this will be implanted in their hearts and minds. It is a joy to know that since they started to speak, and were able to answer, I would ask: “What is love?” or “What is the meaning of love?” And I tell them the answer is just one word. The word “JESUS.” I kept repeating this question until the answer became ingrained in their minds. Praise God because when I ask them: “What is the meaning of love?” Their answer is “JESUS”. Glory to God!
