“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23-24)
How do we give our best to our jobs? We wake up early so we are not late for work. We are not absent from work unless we are sick or have a valid reason. We do our work well to have a sense of self satisfaction and our supervisor and employer’s approval of a work well done. We submit reports, etc. on or before the deadline. We adjust to our colleagues by being nice, kind, and helpful so that we can have a harmonious working relationship and achieve the tasks and goals as a group. We try to be happy with our jobs despite the difficulties.
How do we give our best to God thru the church? Do we attend worship services, prayer meetings, Bible studies, etc. on time? Unless sick or have an honest reason, are we always present in church activities even if we don’t have a leading part? Do we do the tasks assigned to us with our best efforts? Do we submit what is asked of us or what we have committed to do on time and not use our busyness in our jobs as a reason for not doing things early and submitting tasks on time? Are we nice, kind, and helpful to our brothers and sisters in Christ so that we can work harmoniously to do the work God has given to us as a church, for His glory? Are we doing our ministry tasks joyfully?
I hope and pray that we do, because we are serving God, not just any employer, and He gives His faithful children blessings that have eternal value. If we are not doing our best for God, let us ask for His forgiveness and recommit ourselves to give our best to Him. God bless everyone.
