Take A Stand

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” – 2 Timothy 2:15 ESV

These were the very words of Apostle Paul addressed to Timothy, emphasizing the thought of being a worker with a goal to only please God and not the people surrounding him. This same verse inspired me to where I am now especially when I started working.

I remember the words of my manager when I was getting my first job appraisal, that I should learn how to dance with the tune and just go with the flow. Being molded in the church since I was five years old, I never understood this idiom. Then, I realized that this is the worldly concept of being accepted in a workplace, which is full of compromises.

Looking back, I really thank the Lord that He had given me the courage to stand on the truth and have this verse as my lifetime motto in my workplace. I have really dealt with so many issues by standing firm with what is true and not because of pleasing my superiors. Working in a foreign land may also instill fear especially in standing with the truth. However, working for more than a decade in the same company made me realize that it takes courage through God’s grace to stand, and not be distracted by worldly forces, in serving and pleasing the Lord.

Heavenly Father, living in a very competitive world is quite tempting to satisfy the expectations of our superiors in order not to lose our jobs. I pray that I will daily immerse myself in Your guidance on how I will live my life that is pleasing to You in my workplace. By Your grace, I know that all my efforts will be blessed and that You will make me a blessing to my co-workers as well as to our company. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
