He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10 NIV)
With the rising, fast, and modern technology, we can do some things immediately like enjoying our favorite instant coffee in the morning or heating our food in an oven when we wake up late, or wash our clothes in an automatic washing machine while cooking and cleaning, or even contact our friends in just one click through the social media or through our latest model of cellphones. Relying on the modern technology and other means oftentimes benefit us because we can go on with our scheduled plans.
How about these days? The alarming situation of the world at present due to pandemic deprives us of doing things that we have previously planned or have previously enjoyed. Like, for example, travelling to other countries. Even if we own the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, the fastest jet aircraft in the world, it will not help us to travel comfortably due to lockdowns or travel restrictions. There are times when we would like to go out and eat in our favorite restaurants to enjoy the food and be relaxed with the ambience of the place. But now, we find it difficult because of some limitations.
There are more things that we want to do but the present situation hinders it. Have you come to the point to ask the Lord, “Lord, when will this pandemic end?” Psalm 46:10 reminds us to be still and be patient; not to be distressed when we face difficult situations like what this pandemic brings us now. Frustration keeps creeping in if we continue to be impatient even if we believe that God is in control. “Be still and know that I am God”, this is His command.
Reflection: What is difficult for you to wait patiently? What keeps you to not fully trust the Lord even we could usually hear in sermons that God allows things to happen like this pandemic for reasons we could not fathom?
Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding us to always be still for You are our God with whom we can instantly call and fully trust in all circumstances. Thank you that despite the present situation, You provide us the modern technology that helps us to communicate and study Your Word and worship You even virtually. May the world also recognize You as the God who is in control of everything. Help us to always rely on Your promise and help us to have the opportunity to share this truth to others. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.
