Seek God and Live!

“Seek the Lord and live.” – Amos 5:6a

The Word of God is indeed alive and active, like a double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul, spirit, joints, and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. I was overwhelmed by politics in the Philippines when I recently had a holiday. I’m not used to listening to or watching the news about politics because it makes me sick. However, when I was with my family, relatives, and friends, they constantly talked about the elephant in the room. I had no escape but to listen to sad and disgusting issues like political dynasty, having a private army, acquiring wealth illegally, paying for crimes, voting, etc. Sadly, the ordinary Juan de la Cruz is enjoying it, though!

As I pondered the issue, I was astonished by the Book of Amos. It speaks about Israel and neighboring nations’ judgment, pointing out their sin and urging them to lament and repent. But what caught my attention the most is these four powerful words, “Seek God and live!” This generation is easily carried away with the pride of this world. The temptation sometimes allures me of what this world offers. Everyone wants me, me, and me! What a selfish world! We tend to forget that the purpose of our lives is to seek God and live.

Joshua 1:8 reminds us, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

Father God, thank you for You are more than enough in my life. Your Word is a lamp to my feet, a light on my path, and thank you for constantly reminding me that You are the most important in this world. Amen!
