“So prepare your minds for action, be completely sober [in spirit—steadfast, self-disciplined, spiritually and morally alert], fix your hope completely on the grace [of God] that is coming to you when Jesus Christ is revealed.” – 1 Peter 1:13 Amplified version
I did not understand the full message of the Gospel during my “pre-born again” life. It is overwhelming to read the Bible and I don’t get what I was reading. So, when I want to hear about God, I just passively listened to a preacher’s sermon and will not fact-check if what I heard was biblically true. But now, having a personal relationship with God, reading the Bible is like listening to God speaking to me and all of the Scriptures became meaningful. Studying the Bible requires a great deal of understanding and wisdom with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Having my daily devotion reading, each verse with the intent of decrypting each word and phrase that God is revealing to me personally in my life had been a great journey each day. It changed the way I viewed life I should be living and that is to bring honor and glory to God. Nowadays, many people do not exercise their minds to be of service to God. They allow others to do their spiritual thinking for them. If they can find their theology from a book they will not bother to study God’s Word for themselves. When we became Christians, God renewed our minds, so, be certain to use it in a way that brings glory to Him. Let us continually encourage one another as we have this habit of sharing our devotions in our BS group. Praise be to Him to whom all glory belongs.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank you for being with us always. May you enrich us with Your words daily. Grant us the wisdom that only comes from You. May we bring you glory in all that we do. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen.
