Our Healer

“I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord.” – Jeremiah 30:17

We have become aware of covid infections which were transmitting rather fast. One day I saw my friend and colleague saying she has a sore throat. The next day she was positive for the virus. And more people I know have contracted it too. I had my own experience of the seasonal flu, which lasted a while, especially coughing. My friend is chronically ill with diabetes, injecting herself with insulin twice daily. When she got the virus, I worried for her. She got so weak, as most diabetics usually would feel. After her, her family got infected too. I can imagine how difficult it was for all of them to be in such circumstance. As I have somehow indisposed myself, I felt how helpless you could be when health gets you down. I found myself in tears in my prayer, not only for me but more so for my friends, colleagues, and churchmates, especially those who have underlying cases apart from the virus. Sis Judith came to mind all the time, considering the life growing inside her, trying to get thru her mother’s ordeal innocently. Prayer has become my refuge in these times. Having read many of the parables of healing of our Lord Jesus, I sought the same healing touch for me and all those I pray for. I knew that Jesus was laying His hands to every sick person I lifted in prayer. Just imagine then when the whole of OECC was praying for all the sick among us. It must have been a continuous ray of light from our Great Healer’s Hands! Jeremiah spoke it out so boldly. His declaration is what we echo today, especially during these times when healing of all forms of illness brought about by this pandemic is what we earnestly seek in our prayers.

Father God, thank you for healing us, head to toe, making us whole and complete once more. We proclaim Jeremiah’s words in this world that need healing. Thank you for your untiring embrace when we feel unwell physically or mentally. You are our Jehova Rapha, our God that heals. In Jesus’ name, we pray with thanksgiving. Amen.
