As I reflect on the book of Romans, I can see how the early believers’ simple choices each day determine their ultimate destiny. God uses circumstances to fulfill His plan and purpose in their lives.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.” – Romans 12:2, NIV
In other words, my life is also the result of the many choices I made in the past. You see, every day, I choose what I will do with my time, what I will put in my mind, what I will do with my money, the people I will meet or talk to, and many other things concerning life. Each time I make those simple to complicated choices, without knowing it, I make another step toward fulfilling my destiny.
Each time I make those life choices, my Christian growth is affected. It is either to help me mature in faith or erode my beliefs’ very foundation. The word “choice” means the power to select, take alternative action, make the decision or distinction, or choose your favorite course of action. I believe God has given us the free will to think and choose accordingly.
We are not robots, so He gives us the freedom to choose our destiny. However, because of my sinful nature in the past, I always tend to make the wrong choices in life. Because sometimes, I based my choices on what was convenient for me, what was pleasing to my eyes, what will give me great pleasure, and what will make me popular with others. And many times, those choices I made were not in accordance with God’s Word; therefore, I suffered the consequences of my actions.
But now that I have the truth of God’s Word in my heart, I believe I have now the tendency to make the right choices and avoid a downward trend. I learned how to make the right choices in life that will help my destiny to be brighter and more successful. Amen.
