“The disciples went and woke Him, saying, ‘Master, Master, we’re going to drown!’ He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters. The storm subsided, and all was calm.
‘Where is your faith?’ He asked His disciples.” Luke 8:24-25
This story is very familiar to us. Jesus and His disciples got into a boat and set out to sail. Jesus fell asleep and they were caught in the middle of the storm. Before Jesus rebuked the wind and the waves with uttered words, His disciples experienced the storm.
I remember when my mother was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago. My family and I were devastated when we heard the news, it felt like I was in the middle of the ocean drowning and do not know what to do. Sometimes, it is easy to rebuke the storm rather than go through the pain and accept it. But this passage reminded me that confronting trials needs unwavering faith. Trusting God that all this time, He’s with me in the boat. He never left my side.
Losing my mother was painful. But once this storm had subsided, I can always look back at the past and remember God’s love and faithfulness. Because this was also the time that my mother was assured of the gift of eternal life she has received. So, whenever I am faced with difficult circumstances, I always remember God’s love and faithfulness. I am confident that God will never leave me. Jesus is in the boat and always has the power and authority to quiet the storm.
