Idols

“And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals. And they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. They went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed down to them.” – Judges 2:11-12

I am not worthy of God’s unconditional love. I don’t deserve His overflowing grace. I am not rightful for His never-ending mercy. I am a sinner. I have “other gods” that occupy my heart and mind. Although I know that it is evil in the sight of God, I still commit modern-day idolatry over and over again.

This world has a lot to offer which distracts us and disregards our first love, the Lord Jesus Christ. Yet, despite our stubbornness, the Holy Spirit convicts us to repent and focus on God’s faithfulness.

I thank Him for the comfort and assurance that I am forgiven. I am forgiven not because of my good works, but because Jesus Christ died on the cross to wash away my sins.

Dear Lord, forgive me if I choose to prioritize other things more than You. I am sorry Lord if I often neglect You and do things on my own. Help me to always put You first and Your will alone in everything that I do. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
