“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” – Philippians 2:3
This verse is very applicable to us foreign workers. We left our comfortable lives in the Philippines to make the lives of our family members better than they used to be. We are motivated to provide them the basic needs and send our children, nephew, or niece to school to have a brighter future. Most times, we deny ourselves all the luxury that we deserve after working long hours and add the stressful environment and the longing to be with family during special occasions. We have already learned to shy away from emotions when we feel alone, helpless and unappreciated. But here we are, still fighting. We are indeed indestructible, brave and strong! We value our loved ones. That is why we sacrifice a lot.
The actual condition of our hearts can be shown not by claiming to love others without selfish ambition or vain conceit but only until we put our love into action. We always find ways to serve our family, friends and neighbors for God’s glory. And to have a clean heart as we execute our love actions.
Prayer: Thank you Father, that You are using us to impact all we serve. May Your Name be magnified with the work of our hands. Continue to bless us as we bless others. In Jesus’ mighty Name, we pray. Amen!
