How Does He Handle It?

“Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, ‘Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?’ ‘No, Lord,’ she said. And Jesus said, ‘Neither do I. Go and sin no more.’ – John 8:10-11 (NLT)

When I think about how Jesus lived here on earth, I always marvel at how He handled situations. Jesus is 100% God, but we should remember that at the time he was on earth, he was also 100% human. He is perfect and He desires to bring people closer to Him. But in return, He received judgment, was doubted, left out, was betrayed, and experienced many other emotionally and mentally stressful things. He knows it and He felt it.

Here’s the amazing thing. Despite those negative remarks from the people, He always responds in love. Let’s look at the story in John 8:1-11. The teachers of the law and Pharisees came to Him and brought an adulterous woman to be stoned, as it was written in the law of Moses. Jesus responded by stooping down and writing on the sand. When they kept on questioning Him, He stood up saying, “let the one who never sinned throw the first stone.” What happened next? One by one, everyone left until it was only Jesus and the woman.

I can see the act of Jesus stooping down showing non-verbally His love and care for the woman at her lowest point, who was most probably already filled with guilt and humiliation. We know that He was the ONLY ONE in the crowd who is perfect and could throw that first stone and stir up the crowd. But instead, he stooped down. And in their last conversation, Jesus asked, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we are so humbled and amazed of Who You are. You are our God and also our friend Who loves and understands us. Thank You that we have You as our perfect example, to look up to.

Continue to work in us Lord as You teach us to walk in humility, compassion and love. We love You, and in Your Name we pray, Amen.
