“But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8 ESV
Have you ever been scared to confess your sins to someone you love because you are scared that he might leave you? Or that his love for you will never be the same? That you might lose the relationship?
I was hesitant to confide my darkest past to my then fiancé because I doubted his love for me. I wasn’t sure if he can accept me for all I have done in the past. As I meditate on this passage, I realized — how come we can just admit all our sins to God and beg for forgiveness, having the confidence that we will be restored? And still, be accepted and loved? We doubt human love but there is no doubt in the love God has poured on us through Jesus Christ. We know that even when the world rejects us, Jesus died for us. Even before we confessed our sins, He already laid His life for us.
I eventually confided everything to my fiancé, with fear and tears in my eyes. I have seen God’s grace through my relationship with him. Because just like me, my fiancé is also a sinner saved by Jesus. Two sinners made worthy by the righteousness of Jesus. The more we realize how much God has forgiven us and how His grace works in us, it is easier for us to forgive others.
Prayer: Lord, I am in awe of Your love for me. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins that I may have eternal life with You. Help me to share the same love and grace I have received from You with my relationships – friends, family, and neighbors. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
