“Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” – John 6:9
As I reflect on the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000, I am amazed at how a young boy willingly sacrificed his food, all that he had in the middle of nowhere, and offered it to Jesus to feed the multitude. This led me to ask myself if I were in his shoes, will I also do the same?
In my spiritual journey, there are times when God gave me an opportunity to step out of my comfort zone. But instead of willingly saying “yes,” my reply was “Why me, Lord?” or I made some excuses such as “I do not have the gift or the skills to accomplish this task” or “I am too busy.” My fear just overwhelmed me and I forgot to trust that I have a big God who can make everything possible.
As God deepens my relationship with Him, I realized that it is not about me but it is about His power manifested through my obedience. It is not what I can do but what He can do because in my weakness He can be my strength.
God sees beyond what’s in my hand and is much more concerned with what’s in my heart. Am I willing to give God my five small barley loaves and two small fishes? Do I believe that He is all-powerful and mighty to do a miraculous result?
Lord, forgive me when I doubted Your sovereignty. I entrust everything into Your hands, believing in Your perfect will for my life. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
