“ I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” – Ezekiel 36:26

To start, I will take the ‘heart’ here in the context of emotions or feelings.

When I was not a Christian, my opinion is that actions come from my brain. What we do or react to certain things is a complex process in our brain that pushes us to do something or respond to things or situations. Our actions are based on our experiences, and those experiences are stored somewhere in our memory and trigger our specific action. When we talk about the heart, this is what we feel, and you take action towards those feelings. But without using the brain and acting without thinking, everything will be a disaster. We do things as a matter of who we are, influenced by our experiences and the people around us.  Sincerity matters to me. The only hearts behind actions that will matter to me are those of my loved ones because their actions affect me.

When I became a believer, I learned that in the Bible, the word “ heart “ is primarily used to refer to the ruling center of the whole person. It is part of man’s spiritual makeup. It is the place where our emotions and desires begin; it is that which drives the will of man towards action. It shows our character, personality, and mind. The heart is seen as the seat of the choice, intellect, and feelings.

The heart is always a symbol of love. Hindi lang sa mga tao na kaya mong mahalin. But to those all people around you. Now it matters yung heart behind our actions. Most of the time what’s inside our heart yon ang nag mamanifest sa atin at lumalabas yun through our action or sa pag dedeliver natin ng salita. It shows our true character, attitude, and personality. That’s why we ask God to constantly guard our hearts, kasi the enemy can use this to destroy us through our actions. As described in the Bible, the heart of man is primarily a spiritual organ that drives man’s behavior.

The Lord looks in our hearts. Kaya nga when we became Christian, lahat tayo nag undergo ng heart transplant. God removes all residues and stone heart na meron tayo. And yes, repentance is only possible through this changed heart.

Giving our hearts to God empowers us. He promises to protect us but also to strengthen us in His word every single day. When we stop relying on ourselves or other imperfect people to guide our hearts and decisions.

Spiritual life begins in the heart and it begins with God.

God is a Savior at heart. He wants our actions to reflect His image. When our hearts are afraid of condemnation, pain, sorrow, or heartaches we can be comforted that “God is greater than our heart, and He knows everything” (1 John 3:20). And when things do not make sense to our hearts, “trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your understanding” (Proverbs 3:5) and ask God continually to seek and guard our hearts!

We should always ask ourselves and be honest to God “Lord, help me evaluate my heart? Ano na ba ang kulay ng aking PUSO ?

Prayer: Lord, I thank you for all you’ve done for me. I just pray that you would guard my heart. Please give me a malleable heart that can be molded and lovingly shaped, like clay by the potter’s hand. Help me to grow into the person you want me to be. Rather than me following my ways Lord, purify my heart and make me more like you. Help me, Lord, take steps that will guide me toward Your plan for my life and not my whims. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
