“41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins worth only a few cents. 43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” – Mark 12: 41-44 (NIV)

“Do your best.” A phrase we have heard or probably told ourselves at least once in our lives. But in our Christian walk, have we really said that phrase and actually done it?

Jesus tells his disciples about this widowed woman that put in 2 copper coins worth only a few cents and points out that she had put in more treasury than all others at the temple because she gave out of her poverty and put everything she had lived on.

If I may rephrase it, the widowed woman gave her best by giving all she had. It may have looked less on the outside, but truly the Lord knows us very well and sees our hearts. Have we really given our best for the Lord and for His glory?

Lord, thank You for humbly teaching us that giving our best for You isn’t about how it looks on the outside but truly on what is in our hearts and intentions. Help us to give our best for You every day. We love You, In Jesus’ name. Amen.
