“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” – 2 Corinthians 4:16

One day, as I was applying my lotion, I noticed my wrinkled hands which led me to the mirror and look at my face. I told myself, time will come that any concealer or make-up foundation will no longer hide wrinkles on my forehead and around my eyes. Hair that was once thick and bouncy is getting thinner. But then, I was reminded that no matter how hard we try, no one can hold back the natural processes of aging. Even though we exercise, eat the proper diet, apply expensive moisturizing lotions, we will get older. This undeniable truth is found in 2 Cor 4:16a which states, “…outwardly we are wasting away….” But praise God – though our bodies are wasting away towards destruction we are enjoying a youthful vitality in our walk with God. Through the constant renewal of our spirit – “…yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” (4:16b), we grow more and more profound to be with God. Spiritual age does not have the same effect as physical age. Instead of slowing down as we walk longer with God, we should be enjoying an active step. The longer we fellowship with Him, the better off we should be growing spiritually. The struggles we sometimes bear is helping us store up heavenly glory, not putting us down. If we are walking with Christ, we are not just getting older but we’re getting better.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding me about the truth on physical aging and growing spiritually. Though you show me the difference between the two, please continue to protect my physical body from any sickness so that I can serve you better. Help me to be spiritually renewed day by day for Your glory. In Jesus Name, I pray. Amen.
